Our History

The Egyptian American Medical Association (EAMA) was founded with the mission of creating a society where doctors and healthcare professionals of Egyptian descent can gather together, strengthen relations, increase medical knowledge, and give back to Egypt and the Egyptian community.

EAMA was conceptualized by Tarek Alshafie, M.D. after speaking with other Egyptian-American physicians about their journey and struggles in the beginning of their careers in the United States. Dr. Alshafie noticed that the there is no support system in place to facilitate interactions between these physicians to learn from their different experiences and help in guiding the newcomers in their pursuit of medical careers in the United States. From this goal, EAMA was born.

Eama was officially founded on December 14, 2012 by Tarek Alshafie, M.D. The Association was granted a nonprofit status on February 28, 2013 in the state of New York.
