The Passing of an Esteemed EAMA Member

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of an esteemed and cherished member of our community, Dr. Samir Banoob. With a globally established career spanning four decades, Dr. Banoob has impacted healthcare systems on major projects in 76 countries. He received his medical degree, Diplomate of Internal Medicine, Master’s degree in Public Health specializing in Hospital Administration, as well as his doctorate degree in Public Health specializing in Health Planning and Management from the University of Alexandria in Egypt. Since the 1980s, he has successfully consulted on an incredible number of healthcare initiatives that included healthcare reform, hospital development, disease control, emergency medical systems and disaster preparedness, as well as elderly and long-term care, and primary care. He was one of the hard working people behind the health care reform in US, Affordable Care Act, signed by President Obama. He consulted with internationally renowned organizations and institutions such as he World Health Organization, UNICEF, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United States Agency for International Development. While his professional achievements are remarkable, he also impacted the academic community greatly by serving as a professor, director, and dean in a variety of institutions over the years. He was a founding member of the College of Public Health at the University of South Florida, where he served as the Director of the International Health Management Programs for 20 years.

With all of these incredible contribution he was able to find time to help us launch The Egyptian American Medical Association, becoming our first honorary board member. He ran the first election in the history of our association and was our first Academic speaker in our meeting in 2013.

No words can describe our appreciation to all he’s done and our deep sorrow for his departure.
